Description:

The coast of Mississippi covers a span 70-miles, which the entire coast of the State of Mississippi. The coast of Mississippi has a thin outer boundary of barrier islands that form the Mississippi Sound. Inside these islands is a section of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).

The ports of Pascagoula, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis as well as Biloxi, are covered in this section.

Take care when navigating in this area, particularly the western section, as shoals and shallows of the Mississippi River Delta can cause shoaling. Obey channel markers and the suggested ICW route.

The coast of Mississippi is a fascinating area to cruise, but not frequented by many cruisers. Those who have spent time in this area have reported that the barrier islands are interesting, though nearly abandoned. The anchorages are secure and wildlife is plentiful.

There are many marinas on the coast: some are in rivers, but a few are built behind large breakwater walls with direct access to the ICW or Mississippi Sound.
