 Scarborough - Profile

Location

Scarborough is the principal town on Tobago and lies towards the western end of the island's southern coast. If you want more peace and quiet, then Charlotteville would be a better place to clear in.

Position 11° 10.67'N, 60° 44.19'W (harbour entrance)

Clearance

See Trinidad & Tobago Formalities for complete clearance information.

Important information:
If you arrive or depart Trinidad & Tobago Waters outside of regular office hours (0800-1200, 1300-1600 Mon-Fri, except public holidays), you will be charged overtime. This refers to the time you sail into the country's waters, not the time you go ashore to clear in. It is therefore advisable to time your arrival and departure WELL within normal office hours and go ashore immediately to clear.

Anchor in the designated area to go ashore to clear in. It may also be possible to berth at the Government Dock.

It is also possible to anchor in Store Bay, on the south west corner of Tobago, and then take a bus or taxi to Scarborough to clear in. It may seem easier to clear in at Charlotteville, however paperwork is reported to be onerous in that port and officers keen to charge overtime.

The Immigration office is at the cruise ship terminal. Customs are available 24/7 and can contact an Immigration officer for you if arriving outside office hours (08:00-16:00 Mon-Fri).

Note however, arrival outside office hours is classed as overtime and incurs extra fees.

Docking

Anchoring space in the harbour here is extremely limited and holding is poor, so ensure you anchor is well set before leaving the boat.

It is a busy harbour with ferries running back and forth from Trinidad.

Only basic facilities are available. There is a water tap (potable) on the pier in town (although a filter is recommended), and it is possible for a yacht to go alongside if the local boats are out.

Many cruisers prefer to anchor in Store Bay, 9nm south.
