Cruisers Beware! Puerto Del Rey marina and Boatyard. This facility operates a kickback scheme with contractors in the area to charge extortionate prices to bootowners for ordinary tasks like pressure washing, boat checks, and oil changes. Furthermore the boatyard is a sustandard facility for hurricane preparedness. It offers only unbraced jackstands and broken, rusted, and bent tie down rings for strapping a boat in hurricane season. It is the most expensive third rate faciity we have visited in over 30 years of cruising to over 50 marinas.

    Report from SunBay Marina:

    Translation:

Sunbay Marina had no problems during the two hurricanes. The southern part of Irma passed through our area, Maria entered through the North of the Marina and then into the South.

Sails were shredded and booms bent, but everything else is very good. A sailboat came loose as it was not tied up properly and sank and two other boats on A dock sank three days after the hurricane after putting up a good fight.

Now we have no light, only water and we are really trying to prevent damage to any more boats because the shorelines are not connected.

We are living day by day, it is difficult but not impossible. The important thing is that the marina behaved as my husband always said that it would because of how it was built.

Thanks for writing, Greetings to all and Happy Thanksgiving !!! This year, more than ever, we have to thank our friends for their interest in us.

Nice anchorage off the Isleta Marina. Being that it is private, they will allow you to tie up your dinghy in the marina and use the ferry service to Fajardo for a fee of 5$ per person per day. No charge to tie up dinghy if using the laundry or restaurant. We could pick up their wifi from the anchorage. The ferry runs until 2230, later on, weekends, but check with a driver each day for any changes.
