Macau - Clearance
Marine Police should be contacted on VHF Channel 16 who may allow a yacht to use their own basin in the inner harbour, which has a depth of 2.70 meters (9 ft). Otherwise one should be prepared to anchor in the river, which can be quite uncomfortable and should only be used in settled weather.
The outer harbor is used mainly by ferries and hydrofoils going to Hong Kong. Be careful in this area as the ferries are high-speed and there can be low visibility (fog or rain).
If the yacht is not visited by officials the captain should go to the harbour master’s office with the ship’s papers.
Visitors to Macau that arrive by airplane and do not have proof of onward travel (i.e., crew joining a private yacht) may encounter difficulties when trying to clear in. The crew are encouraged to bring evidence of intent to depart Macau as crew aboard a yacht. A letter from the skipper/owner of the vessel is helpful.
On departure, the Harbour Master should be notified not later than six hours before departure.
