New Years Eve in Jamaica

We spent New Year’s Eve in Kingston Harbour right in front of the Royal Yacht Club. In fact, we were anchored there for about 10 days since the weather further south was not really encouraging us to sail on to Panama.

Pat at the Yacht Club was extremely helpful. After contacting her via VHF, she arranged the Immigration procedures for the same day. The next day when we came ashore, she personally drove us to the supermarket.

There was a party at the Yacht Club on the 31st, and we returned shortly before midnight to our boat. From there we could watch the fireworks and the sirens of all the large ships anchored in the harbour. It was quite a spectacle.

We had read about the warnings of theft and/or robbery. I must say we did not find anything that remotely caused us to be nervous. The people were very friendly, nobody accosted us, although for most of the time we were the only boat anchored out there and we even left the boat several times to go exploring the island. We simply asked the harbour master to keep an eye on boat and dinghy and nothing happened to them while we were gone.
