Wreck discovered, but 2 Italian sailors still missing: SAR search called off

This is translated roughly from Italian. See original article here.

A 53-year-old skipper, Aldo Revello, is missing, together with his sailor friend, Antonio Voinea, since 2 May when they activated their EPIRB.

The skipper's wife, Rosa Cilano, gave the alarm. The two were returning from Martinique with destination Spezia (Northern Italy) aboard a sailboat of 14 meters, Bright.

Apparently the boat got into trouble in the stretch of sea between the Azores and Gibraltar.

The wreck has already been found with jackets, boxes and fuel tanks, but none of the crew.

"I ask that the authorities continue to engage in the research of my husband and Antonio". It is the appeal of his wife. "I can not understand what happened, the last contact had happened at 0.16 on May Day. The weather was good, with a wave of one to two meters and a wind of 15-20 knots across. They are experienced sailors, look for them with great use of strength, "says the mother of a 4-year-old girl.

E-mail received from Alessandro Gazza:

Two Italian sailors are missing in the Atlantic Ocean since the 2nd of May 2018. Their sailing boat “Bright” actually disappear at the following coordinates 37-35’N, 17-57’ W (last EPIRB signal), they were heading Gibraltar coming from the Azores Islands. Please, transmit this message to whoever can help. The SAR operations have been partially suspended but as sailors, we strongly believe in the International sense of solidarity among all the seamen.

It’s an international solidarity SAR operation.

God bless you for your help.
