Indonesian Import Duty for Visiting Yachts

Cruisers visiting Indonesia should be aware that Kupang (Port of Entry) is currently charging visiting yachts an import duty of 45% of the value of the yacht, with the threat of impoundment of the yacht, confiscation of passports and or arrest.

A group of 20 or so cruising yachts late in 2008 had to pay a "fee" of $600 USD per yacht in order to clear into Kupang, even though each yacht had a valid CAIT and all the crew visas were in order.

Noonsite has been informed that there have been a number of high level meetings in Bali and Jakarta in the past few months in an effort to overcome these problems, however as yet the best advice is to avoid Kupang and instead enter Indonesia at one of the other POE.
