Oman : Profile

Facts

• Most yachts visiting Oman are en route for the Red Sea; the route from India, particularly Bombay, passes very close to Raysut.

• Oman now recognises the benefits to be derived from tourism and many new tourist facilities have been developed in the past 2-3 years, mostly around the Muscat area and in the country's interior.

• Yachts are also more welcome now and can stop for a few days at Port Salalah, near the town of Salalah; also at Mina Qaboos (Muscat), where a small marina has opened.

• The people are very friendly and hospitable, especially as few yachts call here.

Weather

April to October is very hot and humid - it can reach up to 122°F (50°C) in the shade. November to March is the NE monsoon when the climate is more pleasant, with occasional rains.
