  Simi : Profile

Clearance

Symi has been recommended as a check in point in the Dodecanese. One can anchor in the adjacent bay and bus to town or go stern to or alongside in the port. The port director will assign a place and assist with docking. There is a small port imposed fee of about E1. Ablution facilities are basic but private facilities are available especially if one breakfasts ashore.

Docking

This is an entirely natural harbour and the centre is deep, so be prepared when dropping anchor. Moor stern-to on the north side, avoiding the area of quay to the east which is allocated to the ferries. It is also possible to moor north of the clock tower, taking a long line ashore to avoid the shallows close to the quay. The bottom is rocky in places so the holding can be suspect. There is good shelter from the meltemi, but prolonged southerlies build up an unpleasant swell.

Simi Harbour anchorage - berth as far to the West as possible as large Gulletts tend to use outer end of quay.
