As soon as the yacht is in radio range, the captain must report directly to
Puerto Lucia Yacht Club on VHF Ch19A (08:00 to 18:00hrs) and follow instructions. Normally the yacht will be told to anchor a short safe distance from the marina lighthouse on the starboard side past the entrance. If arriving outside working hours, the yacht must anchor outside the entrance buoy and clear in the following morning.
The Yacht Club will arrange for thr Authorities to come on board the yacht, having helped with the preparation of the necessary documents. Except in special cases, it is no longer necessary for the crew to visit the Immigration Office. 90 visas are granted on arrival, and can be extended. The capatain is responsible for the cost of the taxi for the officials visiting the boat. After clearance, the yacht must stay within the jurisdiction of the Puerto Lucia Yacht Club.
There are various fees to pay, usually on departure, and are collected by the Port Captain.
When clearing out one should NOT mention Galapagos as an intermediate destination, but the Marquesas. Legally, only emergency stops are allowed in Galapagos, so one cannot "foresee" such an emergency, but as everyone knows stopping in Galapagos is no longer a problem.
Yachts are now allowed to stay for upto 8 months 9 days. The yacht club is working to significantly extend this time.
Puerto Lucia is easily identified by six apartment blocks, the
one in the middle having a distinctive white roof in the shape of a pyramid.
The marina entrance is at 2°13.01 S, 80°55.28 W. A sharp turn to the right
after having cleared the breakwater takes you to a fuel dock which is also
the reception dock (to be approached only after clearance). Next to it is the 50 ton travelift. The marina is not large and has floating pontoons with water and electricity on both its northern and southern sides.
A new price structure is being introduced, and long-stayers are offered a discount if fees are paid in advance. Details can be obtained from the marina website
www.puertolucia.com.ec or by sending an email to the marina
marina@puertolucia.com.ec
Security in the marina is excellent as there are guards on 24 hour duty, and
there is strict control at the main gates that lead into the club and marina. All visitors must pre-resister at the marina office.
