  Maria La Gorda : Profile

Clearance

This is a Port of Entry, but clearing in here can take some time as the officials have to come out to your boat in the anchorage. Recent reports (April 2008) state that a total of nine officials in total have to visit for clearance, including Port Captain, Vet, Doctor, Agricultural official, Customs/Drugs with dog, Resort Manager and Security Guard. All have to be paid and fees total approximately US $165.00.

Docking

The anchorage is at coordinates: 21 49´N, 84 29´W, on the SW coast of the mainland. The anchorage is on the east side of a very wide bay and is exposed, potentially, to everything other than easterlies. The anchoring is amongst coral and care needs to be taken.

Maria La Gorda is principally a dive centre as there is excellent coral just off-shore here. There is a small dock just to the north of the anchorage for use by the Dive Resort boats only. Cruisers are welcomed at the dive resort which offers restaurants, rooms, a bar and laundry.

There is no fuel or electricity available. Jerry jug water is possible.

There are no public transport links however car hire is possible from the dive resort.
