  Fomboni : Profile

Clearance

A new jetty has been built near the airport, accessible from the natural bay just east of Fomboni. The holding is good in sand and mud here, although the swell is continual and uncomfortable. This is where officials will meet and board the yacht. Do not anchor off the old jetty in the main town; the bottom is terrible and you'll be told to move to the new anchorage anyway. Clearance procedures and fees are all "negotiable".

The south coast of Moheli is a marine reserve. Do not anchor along the south coast without first clearing in Fomboni; the gendarmes at Nioumachoua monitor the area. Diving is very good here and there is some protection from the offshore islets.
