Santa Cruz de la Palma : Profile

Clearance

Arriving yachts should proceed into the new marina. On arrival the skipper should report to the port office (during office hours 0800-1430) located in the low Port Authority building across the road from the main harbour gates. (Tel. 922 412121, Fax 922 420732). Channel 16 is monitored during office hours, while the working channel of the port police is 71, which is monitored permanently. Security also monitors Tel. 922 412 267.

Docking

A new breakwater has created a sheltered area in the northern part of the harbour. The outer side of the new pier now acts as a ferry dock. The entrance to the new marina is on the western side, near the Club Nautico. Reports from cruisers state that there is a constant surge so try to berth as far into the marina as possible.

The Club has installed one long floating pontoon which has water and electricity on it. Boats should come stern to this pontoon by picking up one of the mooring lines that have been laid. The marina office is not always manned, therefore docking fees may need to be paid to the club. Port fees are paid at the Port Captain's office.

28º 40’ 5” N, 17º 45’ 8” W. New marina now open (Dec 2008), however office not manned full-time. Located in Santa Cruz. 180 berths are planned, all with water and power; full facilities; fuel berth; boatyard planned for 2009. Owned by the Calero family, of Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. Cruisers report Dec 2008 that there is no Wi-Fi in the marina but you get an automatic entry to the Club Nautico and can use their free service. There is also a large indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room in addition to the outdoor pools at the Club. Prices were higher than in La Gomera.

Yacht Clubs

In the harbour's recent redevelopment, the small bay and beach next to the yacht club have been filled in to provide storage space for containers, so that the yacht club is now marooned ashore. The club is famous for its hospitality, and now welcomes visiting yachts who are berthed at the new marina. Temporary membership is included in the marina docking fees and full use of the facilities at the club are permitted.
