There are a large number of marinas in the area around Vancouver, known as Lower Mainland. Those in False Creek and Burrard Inlet are convenient for downtown and allow you to be in the centre of the action!. For major repairs and hauling out, the area to the south, around Richmond provides a greater choice of suppliers and services. For a quieter life and impressive scenery, West or North Vancouver (Howe Sound) is a useful base, while still within reach of the city via the ferries.
There is also an anchorage in False creek, but NOTE: as from 2007 there are restrictions on the length of stay there (max 14 days in any 30 day period in summer). See http://www.city.vancouver.bc.ca/engsvcs/streets/blueways/anchoring.htm
