There are Two Shoal Bays in Anguilla!

Shoal Bay East is on the north side, toward the east end of the island. It is a popular tourism destination with a fine beach, great snorkeling if you've never been out of New Jersey before, restaurants, beach bars and live music on Sundays. "Shoal" means reefs. Avoid this bay unless you have a good chart and full confidence in your piloting ability. Or were born here.

Shoal Bay West faces St. Martin near the west end of the island. The plan to dredge Gull Pond is on hold indefinitely. Buying a slip here may not prove to be a good investment. There are no marinas in Anguilla. Some of us hope for them, some of us hope that our pigs will fly. None of these wishes have been realised but I don't know what may happen tomorrow.

Neither Shoal Bay is a port of entry.

Our thanks to Bob Conrich of Anguilla for sorting out this tangle for us.
