Facilities for yachts on the west coast of Greece have improved markedly
in recent years. Gouvia marina in Corfu has been enlarged and there is a new marina in Lefkas town. Also there are three boatyards at Aktion opposite Preveza, one of which, Preveza Marine can also lift and store ashore large multihulls, which is rare in the Med.
Vliho lagoon just south of Nidri is a popular summer anchorage and increasingly chandlery and services are available here also. The west coast does not suffer the strong Meltemi unlike the Aegean. Based in this beautiful area one can also cruise to Italy, Croatia, Sicily, Malta, the Gulfs of Patras and Corinth from which one can pass through the Corinth canal to the Saronic Gulf. The Peloponnese is a few days away and still little visited. In addition culture vultures will find their yachts can be moored close to Delphi and Olympia and the mediaeval port of Navpaktos.
