A new Yachts License Act covering fees payable by vessels carrying
passengers for hire in the waters of St. Vincent & the Grenadines
came into effect on January 1st, 2002. These fees apply to locally
based boats, foreign-based bareboats, and foreign-based crewed
charterboats.
Please note that THERE ARE NO NEW FEES FOR PRIVATE CRUISING YACHTS
visiting SVG -- these new fees are only for vessels carrying
paying passengers. Unfortunately, due to a misinterpretation of the wording of the new law, during the first few days of its implementation a number of
private cruising yachts were mistakenly charged extra fees while
clearing Customs at the various ports of entry in SVG.
Cash refunds to cruising yachts which were charged in error in
Bequia are now available from the Bequia Revenue Office. A number of skippers have already collected their refunds there. Steps are being taken to make
refunds available at other ports of entry in SVG as soon as possible.
