Countries: South Africa
Clearance in: See Audrey at the Marina office. She will equip you
with the necessary paperwork, a world of good advice and then call the
authorities for you.
Clearance out: A Yachties nightmare. Obtain a
running sheet from the
Marina Office. Rent a car. Check the addresses for
immigration and
customs, they keep changing. Start at Port Capt.
office and obtain more
papers to fill in, then find immigration (in Oct
2001 3 km south of
Point YC), show your passports and clearances,
proceed to customs on
Stanger/Victoria Embankment. There you will fill in
the same data again
as before, just in a more hectic environment at the
reception desk.
The go back to the Port Capt.office (open in the
afternoon from 13.30
hrs to 15.30 hrs, so you better start in the
morning or drive faster).
This clearance and your flight plan is then only
valid for 36 hrs. If
the weather goes belly-up, and it does like to do
that here, then you
clear in and out again !! Good luck !
The good news is that only Richards Bay and Durban
insist on this
nuisance, the other harbors have given up on it.
