Worrying News From Trinidad Exaggerated

The situation described in the recent Noonsite News item "Worrying news from Trinidad and Venezuela" and dated 17th October, is rather exaggerated, at least as far as Trinidad is concerned. Though it is true that there have been two robberies on the public road in recent months, steps were promptly taken by YSATT (The Yachting Services Association) which include provision of a free maxi-taxi shuttle service at night for visiting cruisers, liaising with the local police (it is unfair to say that they are unconcerned), and meeting with cruisers themselves in order to hear their suggestions and requirements.

As for theft within the boatyards, it is simply untrue that all the haulout facilities have this problem. There have been incidents in just two of the five main yards, and these have affected a tiny percentage of their customers. How unfair to suggest that "The boatyards seem quite unconcerned about the high level of crime."

In view of these comments, noonsite has removed the aforementioned News item.
