In an obvious move to attract more tourists, including cruising boats, to Palau, the authorities have recently revised the various fees charged to foreign visitors. The clearance fee charged by the Immigration Department is now $50 if an application has been made in advance, or $100 if the application is made on arrival. The renewal fee is $50 per month for the boat, plus $50 for each tourist visa renewed. There is also a $50 fee payable to the Customs Department, which is an annual charge. A new development is that US citizens can now stay in Palau for one year before needing to apply for a visa.
