The U.S. Coast Guard is searching the Atlantic Ocean 285 miles northwest of Bermuda for a woman who was washed overboard from the 38-foot sailing vessel ‘Triple Stars’ yesterday afternoon (Nov.11). Coast Guard watchstanders received notification from the woman’s husband aboard the vessel at 1:39 p.m. Friday, with the sailor stating that his wife had been washed overboard by a 30-foot wave.

A statement released by the Coast Guard said, “Using AMVER, the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System, the Coast Guard directed the AMVER merchant vessel High Jupiter to the location of the broadcast. The Coast Guard also launched an HC-130 Hercules rescue crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist in the search. At approximately 5 p.m., the High Jupiter arrived at the sailing vessel location and removed the remaining crewmember from the Triple Stars while continuing the search.”

The Island Packet 38 T’riple Stars’, crewed by Jan and Rob Anderson, left Newport, R.I. en route to St. Martin while participating in the 12th annual NARC Rally.

Update 10.30pm: The Coast Guard suspended its search at approximately 2 pm today (Nov 12th)
