The well known high latitude expedition vessel, Pelagic Australis from Skip Novak’s Pelagic Expeditions, is offering 4 berths for her November 12th expedition cruise to the exquisite sub antarctic island of South Georgia.

This is a 28 day cruise, beginning and ending in Stanley Falklands Islands. Cost is 11,000 GBP per person once on board. See www.pelagic.co.uk/prog_sgeo2011.asp for full details and logistics, or contact Skip on skipnovak@pelagic.co.uk

This is an ideal ‘baptism’ to high latitude sailing with the experts of the genre. For boat owners wishing to take their vessel south in the future, this can save a lot of heartache, cost, and uncertainty, and not least of all, you can relax on this cruise in this stunning, but at times, dramatic environment with our expert crew in charge.

Tim Barker, an RCC member and owner of an Oyster on a world cruise, joined us last February on our Antarctic Peninsula trip. This is his unsolicited follow up.

Dear Skip

I returned yesterday from the Pelagic Australis Antarctica cruise. If you look at my blog (www.blog.mailasail.com/mina2:www.blog.mailasail.com/mina2) you'll see I had a pretty good time. Well, actually, life-enhancing. More of that later.

Moving on. Your boats are legendary and are, of their type, without comparison. What I was not to know was that the same applies to your crew. As you know, the purpose of my trip with you was as a recce and fact-finding exercise with a view to deciding whether or not my glass Oyster 485 and I would be up for the same trip next year. I was concerned that the attitude of professional charter skippers to amateurs in Antarctica might be negative, but you assured me that in Miles and Laura's case that was not to be. And how right you were.

The trip in itself was the most fantastic experience, but with my additional agenda it has proven to be invaluable. Miles, Laura and Dave all made it their mission to impart as much knowledge to me as possible throughout the trip. I have left with pages of notes, and a wealth of information and experience which has not only decided me to commit to my own adventure on my own boat next year, but to do so with with so much more awareness and therefore confidence (without complacency) than would have been possible without having done this trip. I owe all three of them, and you, a great debt.
