More Anaylsis of Piracy Attacks

Bill Rouse of ‘SY BeBe’ has sent us an interesting link to his mapped analysis of piracy attacks in the last 3 months. It shows an alarming increase in incidents.

Although the number of yachts so far involved is small, as he points out, many attackers are likely to be hungry, high on drugs and carrying powerful weapons. If, having just failed to capture a lucrative commercial vessel, a yacht hoves into view, they are not likely to let such a tasty morsel pass them by.

Nobody would disagree that sailing the world’s oceans is risk-free, mostly from the weather and the seas themselves. However, just as a prudent skipper studies the weather patterns, considering the current pattern of a pirate attacks is another factor to take into account when deciding the route to take.
