We have now been advised that the proposed pick-up has been changed from Cochin to Male (Maldives) and scheduled for 15th-25th March. Several boats are now booked for this service and there is limited room remaining. It will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

If wishing to sail in both the Mediterranean and Asia, then deciding on how to get from one to the other is not an easy decision.

One alternative to either running the risks of transiting ‘Pirate Alley’ or the long haul round the Cape of Good Hope, might well be taking advantage of one of the yacht transport services.

‘Dockwise’ offers many routes worldwide including Australia and the South Pacific to the Mediterranean and has been doing so for several years, although they have no plans this year for a service from SE Asia to the Med this year (2011).Ed. See update - this is no longer correct.

Another player in this field is Sevenstar Yacht Transport which is planning serveral voyages from Phunket (Thailand), Singapore, Hong Kong or Galle (Sri Lanka) to Turkey, Malta or Italy in spring 2011.

The current details of these voyages are:-

MV Happy Delta (built 2011, 2 x 400mt and 1 x 120mt cranes)
Sailing from Doha Qatar and Jebel Ali to the Mediterranean.

ETA @ Damman (Saudi Arabia): approx. 15/25 March
ETA @ Doha (Qatar): approx. 18/28 March weather
ETA @ Jebel Ali (UAE): approx. 21/31 March

To Marmaris (Turkey) and Genoa (Italy)

The Good News
With sufficient demand, there is now a possibility of a pick-up in Cochin, India in March.

Anyone interested should contact Mike Heffer at m.heffer@ysl.wainwrightgroup.com or Tel: 0044 (0) 2380 223 671
as he is acting as agent and his company is Yacht Shipping Ltd (a division of Wainwright Bros & Co Ltd) www.yachtshipping.com

Bill Rouse of SY BeBe is hoping to take advantage of this service and is happy for anyone else interested in the possibility to contact him at svbebe@gmail.com

Other voyages planned are:-

Beginning of April – Hong Kong & Singapore to Genoa (Italy) & Gibraltar
Beginning of May – Singapore & Phuket to Genoa (Italy)

Other ports in between are subject to requirements.
