Madang
Tony Burns (Burnsey) recently passed away and will be missed by regular visitors to
Madang as he always knew where to get anything you wanted and had a well sheltered
anchorage. This anchorage now has 2 wrecks in it and a couple of small coasters so
is no longer very yacht friendly.
Best place for marine chandlery ise Rookes Marine on 8522325 or for engine parts any
branch of Ela Motors.
The Madang Club has just installed a floating Pontoon and we used this but as it did
not seem very well anchored we held off the pontoon a few inches with an anchor to
windward and a long line to a wharf. The Cub is just inside Madang Harbour on port
after the easily seen Madang Resort. It's a safe place to moor and the club has a
good bar, restaurant and showers. We were not charged for our 5 night stay but we
did join the club at a cost of K125 for a year. club manager is Michelle,

Customs are just outside the club on the right. There are good (for PNG)
supermarkets in Madang but as with most towns in PNG it's not safe after dusk.
Thanks to Chris Bone of Oceanswatch for this information.
