We arrived in Guadeloupe on March 22, 2009 only 3 weeks after resolution of the island wide riots and demonstrations which paralyzed commerce for over 7 weeks. We found most services to be back on line with a few considerations. Power in some areas is off for 1-2 hours in the morning and in the afternoon as all the power plants are not back on full schedule and those that are available cannot handle the demand. The largest marine store in Guadeloupe called Electro Navic was burned during the riots.
However, there are plenty of other smaller stores that carry a wide
selection of marine products. Lastly, the supermarkets seem to be about 80-85% stocked. I imagine it will get better with everyday that goes by.
Most importantly, the general mood is good and tourists are greeted with warm smiles.
