We have just arrived back in Darwin in May 2008 having spent 3 fantastic months in Indonesia. There were 5 other yachts that sailed to Darwin having spent different amounts of time in Indonesia who arrived at a similar time to us.

Most of us left Singapore/Malaysia and sailed to Darwin stopping at different ports. Only one yacht cleared out of Kupang, (no problems) the rest of us clearing out of either Bali, Ambon or Maumere.

NONE of these yachts experienced any problems re paying a bond. It was not mentioned at all to any of the yachts. It does NOT apply to international yachts visiting Indonesia. The only problem appears when yachts clear into Kupang.

We used an agent in Jakarta for our CAIT. One other yacht used the same agent and we both had information via email that the bond/tax does not apply to us.

Our experience in Indonesia (having now spent 6 months there over the past 5 years) has been fantastic and we have never encountered any problems with any officials. Clearing in and out of Indonesia was much cheaper than clearing into Australia!!

We are happy to pass on any other information re Indonesia.
