Cyclades, Paros: Latest Updates

Published 12 years ago, updated 5 years ago

The little marina in Paros gets quite packed in high season (until the first week of September), but if arriving early in the day one can easily find space.

The harbour is under private management from the municipality and hence not under the control of the Harbor Police (as with Paroika). This makes it considerably easier to check in and out (no paperwork or waiting time). Fees are a bit higher, approx. 30%, but water and power are free. Some water posts seem to have locks on them. Ask the manager.

Offseason in the winter, northerly storms tend to bring a nasty swell – which is unattainable. But the standard Meltemi 4-6, even 7, doesn’t bring larger and uncomfortable amounts of swell into the harbour. Especially if docked on the northern side of the pier. The south side faces the swell directly.

It should also be noted that the Meltemi doesn’t blow hard into Naoussa as with other nearby ports.

Alternatively, the anchorage north of the city just south of “Parko” has good holding and is sheltered both from the wind and waves. Additionally, concerts and films are played throughout the summer here.

The nearby, very friendly shipyard, 400m to the west (cradle style haul out), does repairs: mechanic, electrician, glass fibre and woodwork. Several yachts were on the hard and prices are reasonable. Quality of craftsmanship seems, although Greek “level”, to be slightly higher than the standard boat builder. Costs are 300€ up and down for under 10m, but it seems locals used to pay only 100€ either way, making it one of the cheapest in Greece.
