Tips on Bus & Taxi Rides from Prickly Bay

We arrived in Prickly Bay Grenada, where we were told that one has to “catch a taxi” from “De Big Fish” restaurant to go into town as the “buses” are not travelling the same route. A taxi will cost you EC$ 30 whereas a bus will cost EC$ 2.50 for the same route.

In actual fact, “Buses” DO RUN PAST the entrance to “De Big Fish” at a regular time scale … just walk past Budget Marine … up the driveway until you get to the main road.

Buses are marked with a big number 1 on the windscreen and only charge EC$ 2.50 per person going to town. They also operate 24 hours a day … they may ask for an extra 2.50 to take you right to the dinghy dock at “De Big Fish” – well worth it if you have shopping and it will be 2.50 flat rate additional … not per person!

If the bus driver “takes a chance” by negotiating double tariffs or sometimes much more … just say NO! What you agree to do sets a precedent for the rest of us cruisers.

When you walk up the driveway by Budget Marine, turn right at the top and walk down the road over Dusty Highway and then to the main road (about 1km) and you can cross the road by the roundabout and pick up a bus at EC2.50 part way or all the way into St Georges. One pays double the fare to be taken from the Maurice Bishop main road back to De Big Fish i.e. 1km.
