There is shoaling in the Big Foot Slough Channel on the way into Ocracoke. The markers have been moved but the shoaling has gotten past the markers again, particularly near “10” and “11”. Call one of the ferry captains for guidance or go in on a rising tide with good sunlight.

Though hit hard by Hurricane Irene Ocracoke Island is back. Shoaling still exists in the Great Slough Channel (see previous note) but the Silver Lake mooring area is available and most businesses on the island have resumed operation.
