A new and well established yard for multihulls is now in full operation in Chalong Bay, Phuket, to the north of the bay.

A custom designed trailer has been built to haul out multihulls safely. A concrete ramp has been installed and the approaches to the slip have no obstructions (all soft bottom mud and sand). This is a Thai-style yard on sand and grass.

The yard is called "Chalong Boatyard & Storage Co. Ltd." and the owner Manop is very helpful and speaks a little English. If getting in touch with the yard, try email first as they have someone who can write in English and respond accordingly. If calling the yard, be patient as spoken English is limited.

The yard has workers available. There is a small daily charge when outside labour is brought in. Power and water are available. They also provide storage and can lift cats up to around 55 foot and 16,000Kg.

A mid size example of rates is:
- 40 footer lift up and down 9600 Baht (approx 220E)
- daily hardstand 400B (10E)
- power and water extra - monthly is 9600B (220E)

Living on board whilst on hard standing is no problem and there is no extra charge for this (although local accommodation is extremely reasonable), just power and water. Owners are welcome to do work on their own boats.

Facilities include 2 roomy showers and toilets for crew, a laundry nearby, pressure water blaster, a few small shops with mixed goods, a good chandlery 5 min. away by car with fast ordering service, dinghy repair and manufacture also close by, Chalong Centre just over 5 mins away by car with lots of shops, western supermarket and hardware store and restaurants.

The yard is already extremely busy with every shape and size of boat - all are shallow draft. The Thai owners name is Manop (Mobile: 08-96522254). His offsider does speak some English if they are called.

Just ask the local yachties for directions or contact Bob Mott (noonsite regional editor) who is happy to direct people to the yard and assist with any questions. He can forward the scanned price list and give directions to get to the yard by road and water from the Chalong anchorage.
