Girne - informal information:

As of 2010 yachts are no longer allowed in the old castle port of Girne, and will be directed to the rather industrial Delta Marina in the ferry port a mile to the east.

Good shelter except open to the NE. Some ferry wash. Good security. Wi-fi in, or just outside, the marina office. Cold showers. The marina office checks yachts in and out with the harbourmaster, and escorts crew to the immigration office in the ferry terminal. Make sure your passport is not stamped, but a loose leaf inserted.

Much easier checkout procedures and better berthing than Mersin, Turkey, for onward routing to Syria.

The marina office is only open 0800-1700 Monday to Friday, all officialdom outside these hours is subject to €60 "overtime" surcharge.

Diesel is €0.90/litre. Water (non-potable) €1.50/10 minutes.

The old port is 15 minutes walk away, and a good supermarket 5 minutes. Main attraction: local gin is €4.00/bottle – and for Brits: proper tea bags, cheddar cheese, marmalade, baked beans etc.

There are frequent evening music concerts in the old Bellapais monastery on the hill above the town. Famagusta, with its crusader and Venetian architecture, is well worth a visit - 1 hour/€3.50 in a "kombus" (shared taxi).
