Sharing Maxsea Track Files

Topics: Cruising Information

I have been sharing Maxsea track files (*.ptf files), which are non-copyrighted files, with other cruisers for several years. I only use these tracks created by other vessels as one more piece of navigation information. As we have circumnavigated, they have been helpful in determining approaches and anchorages as well as avoiding uncharted low-water areas. It is also fun to see what someone else has done on passages.

I have been searching for a good place and method to exchange these tracks for some time. Very recently, I started a Yahoo Group named "Circumnavigation", where these tracks are posted and shared among members. Located at Join if you would like to view the content.

You will also find Maxsea overlay files showing pirate attacks in the Somalia and Gulf of Aden area for the last 3 years. This one is very interesting because it overlays the chart and graphically shows you the history and location of the attacks. There are other interesting overlays and other informative files.
