Countries: Egypt
We have recently made the trip from India to Turkey via the UAE. After new year we came through the Suez and used Prince of the Red agents. The yacht is a 70' Cat and we paid the following (in USD):
Suez canal transit dues - $3611
Port disbursment - $311
Port clearnce - $128
Agent fees - $300
Insurance - $50
Immgration (arrival and departure) - $50
Causstome fees - $50
Total: $4500 USD
This did not include the pilot and harbour bribes which were another $150.
Just as a warning to anyone with a Cat, they charge on "Volume" not weight.
Other than the huge cost the trip was easy and stress free, which was a nice change from the Gulf of Aden!
My only notes on the suez would be that I don't think it is physically
possible to do the trip without an agent. I have been informed that for
the past 5 years it has been essential. However not to be mistrusting but
as everyone has motives in the area to remove you of more cash this could
have been a lie.
The harbour was cheap, dockmaster excellent and they will do cheap laundry
for same day wash. They will also do the gas. Fuel is 1USD per litre and
Hurgada was 95c. We did however use an agent for both as was taking on
over 3000lts. I'm sure there is a cheaper way. Wifi in Suez and Hurgada
marina no longer exsists but there are very reasonable internetcafes 5
minute taxi away (should cost £1 in taxi but agree price before you set
off!).
