ARC 2009 - Starts next month

The final preparations are being put in place for the start of ARC 2009 that heads off from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria on 22 November. This year's fleet has 220 boats entered representing a record 32 nationalities. Still talking numbers, there are currently over 1,150 adult crew taking part and a further 32 children participating, the youngest of whom is just 1 year old!

Crews on the participating yachts will be able to upload daily logs and photos to the ARC website throughout the rally. Follow all the adventures and read the latest news from the ARC at www.worldcruising.com/arc/.

ARC 2010 - 25th SILVER JUBILEE EDITION
Start date 21 November 2010

There is already plenty of interest in next year's most popular trans-ocean cruising event that celebrates its 25th Jubilee edition in 2010. Planning is underway to make this a very special rally for everyone involved and a rolling programme of events will take place. As our plans for 2010 take shape we will circulate more details.

Meanwhile, we can reveal that World Cruising Club is planning for an entry of 250 yachts for the 25th edition. This would be an all-time record ARC entry and a perfect way of marking the anniversary!

Our plans include producing a special edition souvenir publication to mark the ARC's Silver Jubilee and we need everyone's help to start gathering, collating and reviewing crew logs, photographs and anecdotes from the past 25 years for possible inclusion.

Please let anyone and everyone know about this initiative and help us to track down the information we need. Please contact World Cruising Club marking any related correspondence clearly as "ARC 25" via mail@worldcruising.com.

The ARC was first run in November 1986 with 204 yachts representing 24 nations and the record entry number thus far has been 235 in 1999.

World ARC 2010 - Happy New Year!

The second edition of World Cruising Club's flagship rally, World ARC, sets sail from St. Lucia on 06 January 2010 with a total of 38 yachts from 17 nations entered. It will follow a similar route to the first World ARC in 2008, circumnavigating via Panama, Australia, South Africa and Brazil, avoiding Northwest Asia and the dangerous Red Sea region.

Routing and weather advice is provided for yachts at sea and daily positions are tracked via the rally website. World ARC yachts starting and finishing their circumnavigation in Europe are able to do so by joining World Cruising Club's ARC and ARC Europe transatlantic rallies.

Everyone at home can follow the World ARC fleet's progress and the crews' experiences along the way via the boat logs and image galleries on the event website. Periodic reports will also feature in future editions of World Cruising Club Magazine.
