Split - Clearance Update

Situation Update Received 10 August 2011

In June 2011, arriving from Vieste, I checked in at Split, thinking all had returned to normal, and was again fined (120 euros) for not having checked in at Vis. The check-in rule seems to be: Vis - summer only and Split - winter only. Ouch!

I arrived this morning (Saturday 10 October) after a 5 month absence, having departed from Croatia at Split in May, to be told that Split no longer welcomed sailors wishing to clear in here, and.... I was made to pay a 1000 kuna fine.

I was told I should have known this (the rules changed sometime this summer) ie. that Split is no longer available and one should check in on one of the islands first, e.g. Vis.

I considered that this could be a reasonable decision because there are on-going works on the international pier limiting access, but no..... one can still check out of Croatia here!!
