Seychelles for cruising - a positive view

Countries: Seychelles

Dominiques posting is somewhat negative of the Seychelles. The overcrowding is limited to La Digue. There are an incredible amount of good private anchorages in the inner Islands where one can be as alone as Robinson Crusoe.

I have serviced my Volvo motors with no problem of spares or labour. Serviced my canvas and sails also with no problem and all for a reasonable price. Electronics the same no problem.

As far as provisioning is concerned, it depend where one shops. I purchase my beer and hard booze from wholesalers in Mahe, fruit and vegetables at the market and fish at the Harbour wholesaler. I find them inexpensive and comparable to South African cost.

Granted one cannot find many items that one finds in Europe or South Africa but one can come by comfortably in an environment that is paradise.

Mauritius as a cruising ground is limited as there are no outer Islands nere by. The nearest being Reunion at 180 nm and there you really get skinned alive with prices. Mauritius is very restrictive with yachts.

Different strokes for different folks!
