RAJA MUDA SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL REGATTA 2009

13th – 21st November 2009

This year marks the 20th consecutive annual edition of this popular and unique Regatta, which progresses from Port Klang in Selangor to Pangkor in Perak, Penang Island, and finally to Langkawi in Kedah – 4 of the most fun runs ashore on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Organised by Royal Selangor Yacht Club, under the patronage of HRH the Sultan of Selangor, the event attracts a wide range of sailors from the region and farther afield. RMSIR is the initial regatta in the trio whose winning yachts qualify for the perpetual Sir Thomas Lipton Cup, and the regional championship organized by Asian Yachting which culminates in Koh Samui the following year. Participants are invited to compete in 4 IRC classes and 3 non-IRC cruising classes, including multi-hulls, and this year the organizers are planning to include racing multi-hulls from Penang to Langkawi for the first time by popular demand.

In addition to the racing, managed by regionally acclaimed PRO Jerry Rollin, and adjudicated by the venerable Bryan Willis, the organizers have set about tracking down the past winners of the coveted Raja Muda Cup, and colleagues who were involved in the early years of the event, for a reunion during the regatta, and (for those still active like Henry Kaye, who won the first Regatta in 1990) to race again.

The social side is not forgotten, with parties in all the ports, including a beach side BBQ in idyllic Pangkor, an elegant dinner at the historic Khoo Kongsi clan house in UNESCO world heritage acclaimed Penang, and culminating at the ever-hospitable Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.

The organizers extend a warm welcome to all sailors, whatever their style of yachting, and have already attracted over 50 firm commitments. Visit the regatta web site www.rmsir.com to view the Notice of Race, entry form, charter opportunities, crew slots and hotel information.
