Currently works are in progress on the north outer breakwater of Figueira da Foz harbour entrance. It is being extended to 400 m and visiting yachts are advised to exercise extreme care, especially in poor visibility.

Although the front part of the works are well signalled, it is a new development and skippers must be very careful, especially in fog or poor visibility.

Currently the breakwater has been enlarged by about 70 m and it is expected to reach 180m by early June.

At night the end of the works has a temporary red light (3 miles range) but the inner leading lights for the channel have been turned off. These will be back on once the new navigation channel and additional leading lights have been completed (probably only by the end of summer).

This improvement to Figueira da Foz entrance will provide, among other advantages in the future, a safer arrival not only for merchant ships but also for pleasure craft.
