Topic: Cruising Information
This Old Pirate is putting together a cookbook of Caribbean cruising
recipes. The number one criteria, is the recipe must be one you make on
your boat, whether it's a state of the art yacht or a simple cruising
boat with one burner and an ice chest. Whether you use fresh foods or
canned goods or boxes, we want to hear from you. Recipes that use food
indigenous to the Caribbean are of featured interest, but recipes are
certainly not limited to Caribbean only foods. Think up a fun creative
name for your recipe and try to supply as many details as possible.
We are also interested in any cooking helps. For instance, we have a
wide mouth thermos jug. In the morning when we boil water for our French
Press Coffee, we also boil 2 extra cups. In the thermos jug, goes 1 cup
of rice and 2 cups of boiling water. Then we close the thermos jug, and
store it. At lunch or dinner, enjoy warm rice as a side dish or ingredient.
Don't forget your favorite drink recipes, whether it's Rum and Rain or
Key Limin-Ade.
I've already made arrangements with an editor, design consultant,
publisher, Amazon, and a US and VI wholesaler. Are you interested in
seeing yourself in print? Do you know of anyone else interested in
contributing? If so, feel free to pass on this information to
them.
You can have your name and boat in print and anything else you would
like to add, as well as your recipes. If you have any fun stories to go
along with the recipe, or just a fun story about cruising, feel free to
share. If you want to contribute as anonymous or under another name, or
your pirate name, that is fine too. If you have any pictures of your
prepared meals or a picture of the boat or yourselves, send those
along. If you want your webpage listed in the recipe/book, mention that
too.
Also, when the book prints, I will contact you for a current shipping
address and send you a complimentary copy for each contributor, so if 2
of you contribute from one boat, you get 2 books. Books will be
available on mailorder outlets such as Amazon. However, they will also
be available at wholesale rates to the bookstores AND YOU!
This means you can MAKE MONEY off the cookbook! While the book will
have a suggested retail price on Amazon, you can sell the book for any
price you choose throughout your travels and pocket the profits. You can
sell a stack to a gift store, or you can sell them one by one to folks
you meet.
Who couldn't use a little extra cash in the cruising fund? Food costs
have gone up all over, and this may be one way to help combat them. You
can also sign up to be an associate with Amazon (it's free) and
recommend the mail order book to others. When they buy mail order, you
earn a commission from Amazon of 4-15%. How cool is that? (Amazon will
supply you encoded links to track your sales.)
Thank you for your consideration and feel free to submit as many
recipes, stories and pictures as you like. Even if you got it from
someone else, just say so, even if you don't remember who.
I set up a website:
http://ThisOldPirate.Com
where you can track the progress of the cookbook from start to finish,
and know exactly when it will be in print and available to you. You will
definitely be able to purchase wholesale books on Tortola in the
BVI (delivered to your anchorage) and on St. John and St. Thomas, USVI at
pickup locations. I hope to work out drop off points throughout the
islands to save you on shipping costs.
Alternatively, your wholesale orders can be shipped to you. Many
countries allow books to come in duty free and the mail system offers an
inexpensive media rate for shipping, though it takes longer than regular
mail.
If you have company arriving from the USA, let us ship a wholesale order
to them at cheap UPS rates and they can fly it in for you.
See yourself in print!
