Gibraltar; no place in the harbour

At the beginning of October 2008 we went to Gibraltar. In none of the harbours we got a place, because "they were full".

We were advised "to ancher in Spanish water". As the anchorage at La Linea was quite crowded (a lot of people were refused), we went over to Algeciras and found a place in the harbour there.

The next day we went by bus to Gibraltar and we saw that none of the 3 harbours were full...

We have the impression that a lot of the berths are privately owned and have to be left unoccupied when the owners boat is away.
