Richards Bay: A Pleasurable Stay at ZLYC

I would like to comment on a report made regarding security concerns at the Zululand Yacht Club (ZLYC - Richards Bay) earlier this year (see report here).

We have stayed at the marina for 5 months this year and as we near our departure from this club I'd hope to ensure prospective visitors are no deterred from using this fantastic stop en-route around the southern part of Africa.

During our stay we left the boat for a month and returned to find everything as it was. Whilst living on the boat it is never locked when we go ashore. We have felt totally safe in the marina and have heard of no further theft from yachts during our stay.

Having two young kids on board we have felt totally at ease with them roaming the grounds of the club alone and enjoying the large garden, swimming pool and trampoline.

With it's peaceful setting and excellent facilities I can recommend the Club as one of the best for a stop over whilst transiting the South African coast. The only downside to the club is that it's hard to leave!.

The Commodore and his staff have been very active in making all visitors to the club feel most welcome and part of the ZLYC family. The Monday night bbq's (Cruisers Braai's) are well attended and bring every one together for nights of good company, which at times lead to slow Tuesdays!.

Our thanks to all at ZLYC for making our stay such a pleasure.
