On August 27, 2008 at 1830 my dinghy was stolen from the rhum bar dock in Porlamar, Margarita Island. There were about 12 other dinghys tied to the dock as well. I had paid the dock attendant that day to "safeguard" my dinghy while I popped up to fetch laundry (30 minutes only) but the thieves were too clever.

Patrick Barry

Note: Mr Barry accidentally left the key to his dinghy and engine on the boat (hence he asked the dock attendant to keep an eye on his dinghy). Noonsite's recommendation is to always padlock your dinghy and engine to the dock wherever in the world you are leaving your dinghy.
