Yacht Abandoned off West New Caledonia Coast

A 38 feet steel multi-chined yacht "Illusion", Australian registered, bound for New Caledonia from Bundaberg, Queensland, was abandoned this morning (30th July) at 11:17 after the owners were evacuated to a passing cargo freighter. The owner was badly injured.

The yacht should drift towards the western New Caledonian coast. Yachts are alerted to the possibility of saving the yacht as the owners were uninsured.

Last position was 23 37.78S and 159 20.59 E, which is approximately 390 miles north-east of Bundaberg.
