Cyclone Season in Fiji or New Caledonia?

I plan to spend next winter with my family and boat either in Fiji or in New Caledonia, depending on which of these two countries offers better protection against cyclones. (I am unwilling to sail all the way down to NZ).

I am aware that both Fiji and New Caledonia are not the safest places during the cyclone season, but can anyone suggest specific areas, marinas or other places in either country where one can better protect family and boat in case of impending cyclones?
