In July 2008, the tall sailing ships will be back in Rouen for the biggest
international nautical event including a week of celebrations before the
race towards Liverpool begins. The Rouen Armada will host over 30 of the
world’s most famous tall sailing ships from the 4th to the 14th of July,
with celebrations, fireworks, street vendors and performers and nightly
organised events lasting all week.
On July 4th, sailing ships from all over the world will sail up the Seine
River to gather in Rouen. They will be passing under the largest vertical
lift bridge ever built: the Pont Gustave Flaubert, the new entrance to the
Armada in Rouen.
The Armada is one of the largest free-admission maritime event in the
world with over 10 million visitors expected over the course of the week.
Rouen is just the prologue of the Tall Ships Race; they will then depart
on the 14th of July to sail on to the departure point of Liverpool before
sailing to Maloy in Norway on July 18th and to Den Helder in the
Netherlands.
