The route we took from Singapore to Darwin is slightly unusual as we cruised through the whole of the Molucca Islands from Halmahera in the north to Tanimbar in the south. Few yachts take this route, although it is a perfectly viable route from Singapore to Darwin if you have time to wait for the monsoon seasons to get favourable winds.

These notes provide a guide to this route based on our cruise in mid 2007 to mid 2008.

There is very limited information available on this area, so we prepared a set of cruising notes which may be of interest to other yachts looking at a route from West Malaysia or Singapore to Darwin. A copy of these notes can be downloaded here.

The notes have been written by Steve and Lyn on Carillon, a Tayana 48. Carillon is a monohull, 14.3m LOA, draft 2m. We hope the notes are accurate and useful, don’t blame us if they are not.
