Marshall Islands to Solomon Islands in July

Hello Noonsite,

Would you have any information about the passage from Majuro, Marshall Islands to Honiara, Solomon Islands in July? My 1987 copy of World Cruising Routes doesn't have any direct info for this route. Do you know of any other cruisers that have made this passage? I'm thinking that it may be prudent to sail to Tarawa then southward before heading SW then WSW once the stronger SE Trades are encountered. Would anyone have any information regarding the approaches to the Solomon Islands from the Northeast?
Any help or advice gratefully accepted!

Best regards,
David

David,

Your suggested route, possibly via Tarawa, is certainly the best way to go. I have no details of anyone having sailed that very same route, but I am sure you are not the only one.
Where in the Marshalls will you leave from - I am asking because you may be going out of your way to Tarawa? Also, why the Solomons, and why Honiara... there have been problems there recently.

The 1987 edition of my book belongs in a museum! The 6th edition was published two months ago and it has a lot of new information, not to speak of masses of updates. You should get it! (would you go to any country with a 19 year old guidebook???)

Regards
Jimmy Cornell
