Additional Fees for Panama Canal Transits

Countries: Panama

We transited from the Pacific side via Mira Flores Locks to Pedro Miguel Boat Club, August 30th, to work on our boat after experiencing damage from a lightning strike in the Perlas Islands. You might want to add to your information that there are now additional fees when making a partial transit.

There is an additional $400 Transit Pilot Delay fee and a $40 Moorage Fee therefore adding an additional $440 to the $850 buffer fee and $600 charge for our 38 foot Cabo Rico with a admeasurement of 43.47 feet in total length. Also it is advisable to pay cash for the fees other than the Buffer fee as when you use your Visa card the charge is a cash withdrawal which could lead to interest charges against your account. The bank treats the Buffer fee as a deposit and if you transit without an issue you will recieve in about two months a statement with the signed charge slip and a statement with no charges being made against the account. Pedro Miguel Boat Club is worth the extra money for the partial transit in the event you need to do boatwork projects. We have been very pleased with thier facilities and security as we are currently visiting family in the states for two months. Sandy&Al of the Sandy Lee
