Hotel Bahia del Sol is a port of entry for El Salvador. All checking in and out needs are readily available through the Hotel. The entry fees are $10.00 USD per person for a 90-day renewable visitor's visa. The cruiser who has recently experienced the bureaucracy of Mexico will be delighted at the simplicity of the entry process and the courteous welcoming attitude of all officials. In addition, inland travel is easily facilitated with a bus stop at the Hotel entrance, where one can get to San Salvador for shopping and sights with a 1 1/2 hour trip.

Bahia Del Sol is located at lat.13'15.900 N. lon.88'53.000 W and unlike Barillas you can anchor free in front of the hotel. The Hotel provides free guide service to bring you through the boca and if you plan on arriving after sundown the Navy, which has a detachment stationed at the hotel, will meet you at the waypoint and stand by you overnight and lead you in the morning. Cruisers are offered a free night in the hotel, including breakfast, during their stay and the hotel gives cruisers a thirty percent discount on most services such as food, beverages, ice, internet time, laundry, bakery and rooms. As of July, they had several mooring buoys available for rent for those wishing to leave their boats for extended periods of time. We left Synergy, our Pearson 36, on a mooring last April and have had no problems. The hotel also has diesel, gasoline and propane at a deep water dock with the lowest prices in El Salvador. We can't speak highly enough of the staff and management of Bahia Del Sol Marina and Resort. They are going out their way to welcome cruisers, to the extent that they offer Cruisers' Happy Hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4-6 pm with 2 for 1 drinks. Wednesday is Cruisers' Night with even better drink specials plus free boquitas (appetizers)and a program.
